Akre University for Applied Sciences was established as part of the Kurdistan Regional Government’s commitment to advancing higher education across the region. This initiative was announced by His Excellency Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, as part of the ninth cabinet’s vision to foster educational development, particularly in the Akre and Bardarash. On June 19, 2023, the decision to establish Akre University for Applied Sciences was finalized, marking a historic milestone as the first applied sciences university in both Kurdistan and Iraq.

Located in the heart of the Akre district within the Duhok Governorate, the university serves Akre and Bardarash city. Thanks to God, our university has quickly gained recognition and stands as a testament to the aspirations and dedication of the people of Kurdistan, especially in Akre and Bardarash.

Akre University for Applied Sciences comprises five colleges and two institutes, providing a range of academic and practical programs aimed at equipping students with the skills and knowledge needed for the modern workforce.
