Within the framework of developing the higher education sector under the ninth cabinet of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), and based on the decree of the Council of Ministers and the Honorable Prime Minister, the establishment of Akre University was officially announced on June 19, 2023, under the name “Akre University for Applied Sciences.” Consequently, Akre University was added to the list of Kurdistan Regional Government universities under Article 7 of the Law of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
Akre University for Applied Sciences is located in the center of Akre District, within Duhok Governorate, and was established to serve both the Akre and Bardarash regions.
It’s worth mention: Akre University for Applied Sciences is the first university in Kurdistan and Iraq to be officially established under the designation “Applied Sciences.”
